The RROL North-Atlantic Open-Wheel Modified Asphalt Division (NOMAD), commonly referred to as "The Nomads" is an American tour-type modified series, founded by Robert Clarke in 2019. The series is governed by Clarke’s RROL Foundation. NOMAD will serve as the first major American tour-type modified series since the Continental Racing League's Modified Division and the FARC Modified Series.

Faber Fabrication will construct chassis for the inaugural season of the series. Saar, Lenard, and Faber currently support the series as contracted engine suppliers; however teams are able to use other options.

The series holds events generally in close proximity to the East Coast of North America, as the name implies. As of 2020, all events so far have been held within the United States.

Championship[edit | edit source]

In NOMAD competition, there is both a season-long tally-style points championship and a tournament-style knockout cup to compete for. In the event that the points champion and the knockout cup winner are not the same driver, the winner of the points championship is considered the overall champion. Winning both the points championship and the knockout cup is referred to as "sweeping" or "the double title."

NOMAD Knockout Cup[edit | edit source]

The NOMAD Knockout Cup is a tournament-style knockout cup which 12 drivers will compete for simultaneously along with the standard season-long tally-style points championship.

  • The Preliminary Segment includes all competitors and spans the first 7 rounds of the season. Race-winners are automatically locked into the first heat of the Knockout Cup. 12 drivers advance from the qualifying round.
  • The Quarterfinal Heat featuring 12 drivers takes place during rounds 8 and 9. An active knockout competitor that wins during this round automatically advances to the next heat. 8 drivers will continue and the 4 lowest points-earners of the cup in rounds 8 and 9 will be knocked out.
  • The Semifinal Heat 8 drivers, rounds 10 and 11. Active knockout competitors that win advance to the final heat. 4 drivers advance, 4 are eliminated.
  • The Final Heat is a battle between 4 drivers in the season finale. The highest finisher of the 4 remaining Knockout Cup drivers in the race wins the NOMAD Knockout Cup.
