The Race[edit | edit source]
The finale of the 2008 ARLA Elite Series season saw a six-way chase for the points championship, with Chris Johaanes, Leslie Riggs, Bruno Battaglia, Anthony Griffith, Bob Stephans, and Kevin Monroe. Jared Andersen was also in contention for the championship, but he had to sit out this race due to injury. OEN commentator Earl McDermott ran this race and came away with a top 10 for his efforts. This race also confirmed Charlie Waters as the 2008 ARLA Rookie of the Year, beating out Allie Riggs despite not winning a race all season. Roger Terlofsky won the qualifying race to get into this race, with TM Master Cup Series driver Tom Delgado barely getting in via the last transfer spot. Former 4-time Master Cup champion Leonid Roderick also attempted this race, but failed to qualify.
With two laps to go, Tom Delgado got a run on Robert Truex on the low side, using a move that Truex used to take the win away from Delgado at Texas. Despite a hard charge from Truex and more help on the high line on the last lap, Delgado was able to hang on for his first career win. It was also the first major victory for MRD Motorsports, and a popular victory among race fans as Delgado had been overcome with personal problems throughout his 2008 campaigns in the TM Master Cup Series, as well as spotty results in ARLA.
