The 2009 Round of Salem for the TM Master Cup Series filled the 9th date on the series calendar. Both the qualifying round and the main event proved to be controversial as the aging track surface made for unpleasant racing conditions. Marbles in the groove of the track led to the Round of Salem being scrapped following it's 2009 race date. This race was most notable for it's high number of accidents and the dominance of underdog drivers. Rookie drivers filled all three spots on the podium with Zach Duff taking his first career TM Master Cup Series victory, followed by Justin Brooks and Scott Hamilton who was substituting for the injured Palmer Stiles.

Pre-Race Announcements[edit | edit source]
Following his failure to qualify the #21 McDonalds Saar at Salem, National Racing announced that Paul Lyons will no longer drive for the team.
"Paul Lyons's performances were not up to the standards we had of him." Peter Keyes, National Racing CEO said in a press release. "We terminated his contract and wish him all the best in furthering his career as a driver."
A driver for the #21 car has not been named, but Leroy Brittain is expected to climb out of retirement after his ill-fated Ecurie SM drive in 2007 for Indianapolis.
Once he turns 18, Ethan Everett is expected to have a few runs in the #21 car. Everett, who will be making his TM Lights debut in the week before Indy, has been one of National Racing's development drivers for a long time during his career in late models.
