Pre-race storylines[edit | edit source]
Rumors of scheduling changes swirled through the paddock, as reports of both Carbondale Raceway and this track being dropped from the 2012 schedule swirled.
Summary[edit | edit source]
The 26 car of Adrien Devereux won the pole with the 14 car of Arto Kekkonen on his outside. A lot of people were predicting the 3rd place starter, the 75 car of Carlos Donzelo to challenge Devereux for the lead in the opening laps, but a tire problem on lap 4 forced him into the pits and then his race got worse on lap 32. When the 999 car of Marcos Leonard blew up coming out of turn 4, the field stacked up and this caused a huge problem. Coming out of turn 2, the 95 of Avery Holtzmann and the 16 of Kurt Plissken got together. Holtzmann got turned into the inside wall coming into turn 3, and came back up the track right in front of oncoming traffic. The 7 of Jacques Bouvier nailed him in the rear and flew into the air and landed down on the 46 of Scott Hamilton, crushing the roof of the 46 car. While that was happening, the 75 car of Carlos Donzelo took a huge hit to the 7 car of Bouvier in the driver's side and then shot up into the ouside wall, as the 831 of Yamino Tenchi was also collected in the process. Holtzmann and Tenchi both escaped unharmed while the driver's of the 46, 7 and 75 were airlifted to the hospital while the red flag was out, but it was later announced that Scott Hamilton's injuries were tragically fatal. More to come.
