Race summary[edit | edit source]
The first lap of the race was plagued by a large accident. As the back of the pack tightened up, Chris Davenport got into the back of Mike Whitmore, sending Whitmore spinning and hit by Dale Roswell. A chain reaction soon followed, Roswell into the tire wall, and also collecting Gaspar de Sousa, Yuliya Nosova, Mikhail Pulyakov, and Tony Durbin among others. Roswell, Luca Scalora, and Kurt Plissken would retire from the race.
On lap 5, Franz Redlich got into the back of Chris Johaanes, who got into the back of Morgan Hamburg, sending him into the sand. Morgan Hamburg would retire after this.
Yamino Tenchi retired due to ignition problems on lap 6, holding up numerous cars driving to pit road.
Louis Kingston pitted on lap 8, with Marcos Leonard pitting on lap 9 for scheduled service.
Josef Nowicki was off the pace for most of the race, being passed by many drivers involved in the lap one accident. On lap 10, he was spun out by Leon Keniston into the tires. Nowicki would retire.
Arto Kekkonen and Alan Hodges would continue to lead the race, with a lead margin over field.
Regular pit stops begin at lap 12, where most of the field, including Kekkonen and Hodges, pitted.
Notable drivers who stayed out include Chris Johaanes, Zach Duff, Franz Redlich, and Chris Davenport.
Right after pitting, points leader Avery Holtzman slid off of the track into the tires. He would retire.
Leonid Roderick and Scott Bates traded places for most of the day, however, Bates would retire due to a gearbox problem. Mathias Taube, the winner at Russia, would also retire due to problems with an oil leak.
Stefan Halvari retired on lap 20 due to transmission problems.
The second round of regular pit stops happened on lap 21 and 22. Notable drivers who stayed out include Jacques Bouvier and Ethan Everett. Marcos Leonard, who found himself way off the leader's pit strategy, pitted with the leaders and mitigated his earlier pit road blunders. Louis Kingston, however, did not do likewise.
Woody Watts retired on lap 21 due to transmission failure.
Drivers who stayed out during the round two of normal pit stops pitted on lap 25. As Jacques Bouvier drove out of his pit stall, Ethan Everett bumped into him, but besides that, pitting happened without accident.
Arto Kekkonen would take the lead back, and drive on to his first win of the season, with Alan Hodges in second.
