Championship Overview |
The 2012 American Stock Car Championship season (officially: Goodyear Presents the ASCC Wrangler Cup Series) was the third season of the revived American Stock Car Championship. Dan Richards won the championship.
Preseason changes[edit | edit source]
The series debuted a new body style in the preseason; this new style is more aerodynamic than the body styles run in the past. Also new for 2012 were the manufacturers: though Saar and Lenard were involved in the prior ASCC seasons, neither used their flagship marques – Saar used the Tremwell brand and Lenard the Sellick brand. For 2012, both manufacturers will use their flagship sedan models: the Saar Carolina and the Lenard Cheyenne/R20.
Joining the two holdovers is Bolden, which will field the Chaser in this series. (Both Bolden and Lenard ran in the TM Master Cup in 2011. Bolden was rumored to make its Cup return at the 2012 Karjala Grand Prix, but that did not come to pass.)
Several former TM Master Cup teams, most notably Camelot Racing and Ocean Motorsports, elected to run here in 2012 and not in the Cup series.
Schedule[edit | edit source]
A thirteen-race schedule was announced; this is an increase from prior seasons in which four or five races were held.
