Pre-race storylines[edit | edit source]
Prior to the race, Dash Cup officials have decided to get rid of the rule that previously locked in the top five in points, and have nobody locked in for the race, meaning all the points leaders would have to work to get into the race. The officials have also contemplated making the event double points, but that idea has been shot down, and thus, the event will stay as a normal points race. There will be a pole qualifying session, though, that will determine the first four spots on the grid.
After the qualifying races, Todd Benatar, in a shocking announcement, was rumored to be giving away his spot to the points leader Patrick Arceneau.
"It disturbs me to see a lot of the good guys in points not be able to capitalize on this great event," says Benatar. "I feel I have no place in this race when guys like Patrick Arceneau and Radomir Stanoytchev aren't in here. So, I'm giving Patrick my spot."
There were also rumors going around that Martin Kreuger and Nathan Ferguson will make way for Reuben Vogt and Terry Orvell Jr. and Stanoytchev will be switching places with Lev Azarov.
The #37 team, led by Carlo De Pretto, was not on the entry list for some reason. It is believed that instead of ending up in Belgium, the team plane ended up in Azerbaijan. Pilots were fired for that incident.
One-off entrants[edit | edit source]
Forty cars were entered as one-off entrants for the Spa GP. The following is the list of cars that entered as one-off entries. Where applicable, the driver's other series are listed.
Qualifying procedure[edit | edit source]
As in the other major races in other series, two rounds of pole qualifying were held, with qualifying races held thereafter.
After some discussion, the officials decided that only the top two in qualifying would avoid the qualifying races. Both of the drivers came from the first session. Session 2 was won by Harriet Wallace, with a 2:22. She would have scored fifth in comparison to the people in Group 1.
