The 2012 RROL Elite Series season was the fifth officially canonized season of RROL competition and the only run without the presence of original founder Robert Clarke. The series' new leadership quickly scrapped the multi-tier system and implemented the twin-race format used by the ARLA Elite Series, due in part to the large number of full-time entries; however, by the end of the season the planned semifinal event at Carbondale was cancelled and the finale at Rockingham featured only one race.
Collin Evans of Evans Motorsports was crowned champion at the end of the year, with a win at Memphis Motorsports Park during the season. Sara Gallagher, Buetch Mayland, and long-time RROL competitor Thomas Forrester each won 2 races on the year, all tied for most in the series. Forrester won both the first and last race of the season, still running under the James Proctor Racing banner.
With his win at Clairmont, Scott Washington became the first African-American to win a race sanctioned by the RROL, an honor that was expected to go to veteran owner-driver James Proctor.
