Championship Overview |
The 2013 Hanmore Formula Overdrive season was the second season for the Formula Overdrive series under the Hanmore Corporation's sanction, and the fourth season in series history. Many of the races were companion events for the TM Master Cup Series, ARLA Elite Series, Formula A, and Dash Cup. However, the series headlined some of their own race weekends, including the Hanmore World Championships.
The season was to consist of a 5-race European exhibition before a 18-race point paying schedule, but series officials decided to re-arrange the official schedule to remove some of the more "dangerous" American ovals and replace their race dates with the European tracks that were to make up the exhibition season after the deaths of Tiffany Matthews, Cody Keaton, Peter Kreamer, Gordon Sting and Tyson Lautenschlager at Texas. The series held an All-Star race during Decatur Championship Weekend for all pole and race winners.
There were 30 full-time slots, allocated to 15 teams that raced in every event. In addition, Hanmore officials allowed several part-time entries for some races.
After the Texas tragedy, FO officials adopted a newer, safer chassis from Avril, who supplies chassis to several V8 Champ Car teams. As a result, Formula Overdrive became a spec series, although teams were still able to build their own engines. These restrictions would later be loosened for 2014.
