The AST Voltson Super Trucks is a stock car racing championship sanctioned under the American Short Trackers banner of FARC.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Participating teams field lightweight, tube-frame, short track stock car chassis with pickup truck body kits, powered by V6 motors.
Most of the races are contested on paved short ovals, typically ranging from 1/4-mile to 1/2-mile in length. Each season of competition to date has also featured at least two races on dirt short ovals. Nelson Ledges Road Course hosts an annual race, as well, as does Michigan International Speedway, the traditional season-opening race and the highest-paying event on the calendar.
The series' races and most of its competitors are concentrated in the Midwestern United States, most prominently in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
History[edit | edit source]
The inaugural Irish Hills Hundred took place on May 24, 2014 at Michigan International Speedway, the first of nine races in the series' first season of competition. The race was won by Lansing late model racing veteran Darrell Quick, who, despite not winning another race for the remainder of the summer, went on to win the championship, as well.
Quick would earn the series title for the following two seasons, as well. All three of his championships were closely contested, and 2016 was the only year in which he entered the final race of the season atop the points standings.
Electing to enter only one race in 2017, Quick would not be able to defend his third championship. That year's title would go to Rockford Speedway racer Bryan Kelly, who at the time had never won a race in his Super Trucks career. Iowa racer Alex Phillips won the title as a rookie in 2018, and Indiana's Camden Rhodes would win it in 2019.
