Alessio Fabiani (born September 15, 1994), is an Italian Formula 3000 driver signed to drive for Rossini Sport in 2013. Fabiani is currently in his 2nd season of his Formula 3000 career, and has proved his skill extensively, taking multiple wins and finishing 8th in his debut season. He has competed in many seasons in karting, and since 2007 has driven for Rossini Sport.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Fabiani started karting from the early age of 6, driving bambino rental karts from the Treviso based kart circuit, Pista Azzurra. Completing 2 seasons positioning 2nd and 4th with a rented cadet kart, as well as a 6th place finish in the Round of La Conca, Fabiani earned himself mild sponsorship; this gave him the chance to compete professionally with his own karts. After purchasing a Rossini Engineering cadet kart Fabiani joined Italian youth development team, Formula Forte, where rising star and future manager Alessandro Rossini was driving in the European Mini-Max series. Fabiani remained at the team for 2 years, driving in the European Cadet Championship, in which he took championships in both years. His time at the team ended in 2005, much like Rossini's, where he joined Eastern Italian team "Squadra Veneto" to run in the World Championship. Despite poor management and kart set up from Squadra Veneto, Fabiani still landed 3 podiums and a season finish of 4th. He later joined Ambition Motorsport the following year, and took 2 wins as well as the World Cadet Title.
Junior karting[edit | edit source]
Fabiani joined Rossini Sport in 2007 to drive in the World Mini-Max. He dominated the 2 seasons he drove in the category, taking 2 championship trophies, as well as 14 winner and 3 podium trophies out of 28 races. Fabiani continued with Rossini, taking a 4th in the World Junior Rotax before winning the World Senior Rotax trophy.
Formula 3000 Italia[edit | edit source]
Fabiani joined Rossini's youth single seater project, entitling him to a seat in the Formula 3000 Italy series. Fabiani, in his first season, took 1 win and 8 podiums, onto a 4th place finish. Fabiani continued work in the F3000 in 2012, as a favourite to win. He proved this with a pole position, ahead by more than half a second. It looked even better in the race, leading for 13 laps before making a mistake and coming home 2nd behind Jo Zuber. Luck came his way on the reverse grid, as he was able to ease past his opposition, while Zuber struggled, allowing Fabiani to claim the Sprint race victory at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit. Pau started similarly, where he took pole and led by a distance of 25 seconds, before his engine expired tragically. He would take 2 points despite the set back. The Sprint race was as dominant as the Feature, moving from 10th to 3rd in 1 lap, before holding 0.5 seconds behind Jo Zuber. On the last lap, he darted up the inside taking the lead before winning. The first round at Misano ended in great success. After a spin in the first corner, dropping Fabiani to the back, he made his way up the field and came home 2nd with the fastest lap. Again, Fabiani took a dominative victory by over 15 seconds in only a 15 minute race, giving him his 3rd Sprint race victory from 3 races. The second round of Misano was highly unsuccessful for both Fabiani and title rival, Jo Zuber (the only 2 drivers to take victory by that point.) An early collision between both Fabiani and Zuber on the front row cost them time before Fabiani crossed the line 6th after a great comeback. However, rain fell heavily and another 1st corner collision put Fabiani, among 6 other drivers including Zuber out of the race. Zuber was classified 9th however. Fabiani took his first Feature race win dominantly at the A1 Ring, before another accident in the Sprint race left him 10th of 13. Fabiani won the championship on the 23rd September at Vallelunga, after securing two dominant victories. Zuber retired from the first and placed 5th in race two. Fabiani enters the final round with a 39 point lead to Zuber.
