Alexander Louis Sybilton, III is a British racing driver from Kensington, United Kingdom.

He currently races in the Vaughn Stock Car Championship, but had expressed an interest in moving to ARLA Elite Series for the 2012 season (see 2012 U.S. visa controversy, below). In the VSCC, he shares a car with Kendall Worthington and Andrew Tammerzan. Alexander used his family's fortune to buy a ride in several racing series on both sides of the Atlantic, most notably in British Touring Cars and the VSCC. Recently, he has expressed an interest in using his birth name in his racing endeavors, something he hasn't done since his exploits in the Punjab.

After the 2012 Dash Cup Japanese GP, Sybilton replaced the underperforming Lucas D'Ambrosio at Peregrine Autosport. He won his first race at Motegi and some raised questions as to the cars legality.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Sybilton comes from an aristocratic British family, and has used his family inheritance to fund his racing exploits. He raced under the pseudonym of "Alexander Leanowens" to avoid being labeled as a ride buyer in British Touring Cars. He is known to be what he describes as a "proud Brit," and has run British Racing Green-based liveries throughout his racing career. Sybilton is also enthusiastic about fine food and wine. He lives in his family's estate in the Lincolnshire area.

2012 U.S. visa controversy[edit | edit source]

Leanowens expressed interest in competing in the ARLA Elite Series in 2012 and had even signed a contract with Brinson Engineering to run a second car for the team. However, on January 25, 2012, Sybilton landed at the Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport via private jet from England. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials asked for his work visa. Sybilton refused (he had not filed for a Visa) and was engaged in an argument with a TSA agent he described as a "idiot yank". The outburst cost him his visa and his AR.

Current Racing[edit | edit source]

Sybilton (in the US) has focused on the RROL. He won his first victory at Martinsville. In recent years, Sybilton has competed in various international sportscar championships with some success; in 2013, he was on the world championship winning Pro-Am GT team, along with his co-driver, Frenchman Pascal Manzon. In 2014, he competed at Le Mans, with Manzon and Master Cup Series driver Cameron Taylor. The team ran well in the early stages, but ran into trouble during the race's nighttime hours. After lengthy time in the garage, the team finished the race, albiet well behind the class leaders.

Sybilton made his TM Master Cup Series debut at Karjala Raceway in 2013, qualifying for the prestigous race driving for the team he competed with in British Touring Cars. He returned to the series at Brands Hatch in 2014, driving for Maximus Racing. Although driving for an underfunded team, he had a respectable outing and showed some pace in the early stages.
