Anna Babić
Anna Babić (born March 12th, 1992) is a Bosnian race car driver who currently competes for Germany-based constructor KWGP in the 2017 Formula B Championship. This is her first season at this level, as she previously dominated many eastern-Europe based racing series, and ran last season's International Formula C circuit, also for KWGP. Her current teammate is Kevin de Vries of the Netherlands.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Born to a middle class family in Tuzla, then part of Bosnia, Babić's family had money but was caught in the tensions leading to the Bosnian War. Her family was forced to flee to England when she was 3, but returned a few years later. Her father owned a garage, and she took interest in racing while watching Formula A with him as a child. It became a natural progression to racing, as she raced her first go-kart at 16 and began to compete in more prestigious series over time, with an uncanny knack to avoid accidents and finish on the podium an extraordinary amount of the time. Finally getting her first major contract in 2016 with KWGP, Babić won 7 of 33 rounds on the season and finished runner up on the championship. It was good enough to receive a contract from team boss Klaus Wendlinghoff for his Formula B team in 2017, where she currently races.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Nicknamed "Blondie" for her distinctive hair and cool, somewhat callous demeanor, Babić isn't particularly known for making friends on the track or in the paddock. Her broken English and so called "Babby-isms" first caught on at Formula C, with most media interactions going remarkably awkwardly.
"I drive on track. I do not talk into infinity. They annoy me." - how she described this style to media during a pre-season test session.
She, therefore, is often at odds with teammate and known chatterbox Kevin de Vries. "He annoys as well, but not as bad, because he drives car. You never drive car, therefore, you cannot talk." - when asked about relating to her new teammate after the first race of the 2017 season.
