Charles “Charlie” Burroughs is a Scottish-born Canadian race car driver, currently competing in the RROL NOMAD division. Burroughs scored his first NOMAD win in his 5th NOMAD start, at Dover International Speedway.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Charlie Burroughs was born in Aberdeen, Scotland during his mother’s return home to Scotland for her father’s funeral. Burroughs grew up in Amherst, Nova Scotia in the care of his mother and maternal grandmother; Charlie’s father left the family “before [Charlie] grew out of diapers.” Charlie does have his father’s surname, but was named Charles after his mother’s father (who had just died days before Charlie’s birth).

As a child, Burroughs had a love of hockey but by adolescence had become infatuated with racing his 4-wheel ATV against his friends. Charlie had a brief stint racing on two wheels after he got a motorcross bike for his 16th birthday. However, after a landing gone-wrong that resulted in a pelvic fracture as an 18-year old, Charlie gave up BMX and ATV racing altogether.

Racing career[edit | edit source]

Through connections made in the BMX world, Charlie Burroughs was given a shot in Canadian late models. Burroughs impressed right out of the gate with a 2nd-place result in his first ever start. Burroughs made sporadic appearances in the Canadian late model circuit, collecting two wins, before he was spotted by Italian-American entrepreneur Deric Dinero.

Dinero entered Burroughs in the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Modified Masters at the Magic Mile held on the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The relationship between the two further flourished as Burroughs would appear in Di Nero's #88 NOMAD entry in the 2019 RROL NOMAD season for 4 races. Burroughs shined, scoring top-10s in 3 of these 4 outings. He lead the most laps in the 2019 running of the Magic Mile 100. In his fourth and final race for Di Nero in 2019 on the NHMS Road Course, Burroughs retired after an early incident.

A deal was struck just before the 11th round of the 2019 RROL NOMAD season for Charlie Burroughs to drive the 48 Timber machine at Dover International Speedway. Supposedly, this deal was put together against the wishes of Deric Di Nero. Burroughs had another impressive performance, leading the most laps of a race for the second time in the 2019 season; eventually, he collected his first career RROL NOMAD victory that day.

For the 2020 RROL NOMAD season, Burroughs has reached an agreement to drive the 48 Timber machine in the team's first full-time effort.
