The Lenard Motor Company, more commonly known as Lenard, is an American automobile manufacturer that supports race teams in the TM Master Cup Series, the TM Lights Series, the FARC Lowe Dollar Series, the ASCC, Dash Cup, and the AmeriCar Championship Road Racing Series. It also supplies engines for teams in Formula Overdrive and NOMAD.
The company's logo is a silhouette of a bird, as the name originates from the French word canard -- meaning duck.
Models[edit | edit source]
Lenard offers two models for race teams: the sedanish Q9 and the ponycar-styled R37. The R37 is a new model that was introduced in 2011. An older model, the R7, was also used up to the 2012 season.
The factory-supported teams run the R37 model, while the older Q9 appears alongside the R37 in the lower-tier series.
2012[edit | edit source]
Initially, Lenard announced that it would field the Q9 in the new-look ASCC. However, further refinements of the body style caused Lenard to reconsider, and it will instead field an updated R20, now rebranded Cheyenne.
There apparently have been those who have created concept designs of the R20. One of the examples was on the old body but with an updated look.
Fortner purchase[edit | edit source]
It was announced prior to the 2011 Round of British Columbia that Lenard had purchased the assets of the troubled Fortner auto manufacturer, which had a massive internal shake-up mid season. As a result, Lenard pulled the Fortner brand out of the TM Master Cup completely, since it already supports Ocean Motorsports in that series. This primarily impacted Matt Taylor's Independent's Trophy entry, which had to switch to the Omecha MA02 chassis.
The Fortner company was wound up later in the year, with its plants becoming dedicated to building Lenard and Lycoia cars. Fortner have since rebranded itself, competing in the 2018 Formula B season
Lycoia Acquisition[edit | edit source]
In 2012, Lenard acquired the Lycoia brand, with the initial agreement that Lenard would seldom interfere with Lycoia models. (To be continued)
