Qualifying race
Qualifying races are races that set the starting grid for an event for when there's a field larger than the paddock will allow. The starting grid for the qualifying races are determined by draws. If there is an exceptionally high number of entrants for an event, pre-qualifying races may also be held to set the grid for the qualifying race.
The TM Master Cup Series held Qualifying races up until 2011, and then held them for the special events, those being the Round of Indianapolis, Karjala Grand Prix, and Round of Decatur. In 2014, the special event qualifying races were also dropped in favor of several rounds of standard timed qualifying sessions.
The FARC Lowe Dollar Series used to do qualifying races in the past, but due to funding got rid of qualifying races in favor of the Twin Race Format in 2011. Qualifying races continue to be held for select special events, and in 2014-15 they were used at select short tracks as part of the 50/50 Sprint format.
The RROL Elite Series was the last of the series to drop the Qualifying races, where they adopted ARLA's Twin Race Format in 2012.
