Safety Car Accidents

While it is an extremely rare occurrence, there have been some documented racing accidents involving the safety car that leads the field during warm-up and caution laps.

ARLA[edit | edit source]

In 2009, the qualifying race for the Elite Series event at Colorado Springs 8-Bowl ended under the yellow flags. After the field came across the start-finish line, the safety car, driven by J.J. Cantrell, immediately made a hard right and smashed into the end of the pit wall. Cantrell was unhurt, but he was later found to have been under the influence of narcotics.

TM Master Cup[edit | edit source]

In the 2012 Round of Victoria, the safety car was slightly damaged from Mika Paasonen spinning into the pit road area in the first incident. Unfortunately the red Gessler wasn't lucky the 2nd time as Chris Allen slammed into the safety car, to the wall, and collecting Zach Duff back on the track. This prompted officials to bring the silver Gessler out.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • In NR2003, pace cars, unlike the race cars, aren't solid, so they'll drive though cars stopped on track, in this case, this won't count as a Safety Car accident.
