Tom Delgado Racing (formerly MRD Motorsports) was a racing team that competed in TM Master Cup, FARC, TM Lights, and Dash Cup. They were called MRD Motorsports until October of 2012, when Mengyi Rail Design, a major railway corporation in the Middle East & Asia, withdrew all their funding.
Tom Delgado Racing has found success almost everywhere they've run, winning owner's championships in FARC & Dash Cup as well as numerous races in those divisions. They have only made a handful of starts in the TM Master Cup series, without much success to show for it.
2019 - Awaken the Echoes[edit | edit source]
After suspending operations for 2018, Tom Delgado Racing awakened from its slumber and announced an intention to compete for the 2019 TM Master Cup Series Independent's Trophy. Naturally, the only person who could rive their entry was Tom Delgado himself. They picked up almost immediate sponsorship from SkyWest Airlines, and are reported to have a budget of nearly $18 million to spend on their campaign, once again showing that their team owner and driver's willingness to open up the bank account in order to be in the best position to succeed.
2021 - Demise[edit | edit source]
Having not been active since the end of the 2019 TM Master Cup Series season after their Independent's Trophy campaign, Tom Delgado Racing laid dormant until Delgado died at the age of 46. The team was inherited by longtime friend Kyle Gaffigan. Gaffigan attempted to keep the team alive to run something in 2022, but the funding left to him ran out quickly and the team officially closed its doors for good at the end of the year.
