The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season was the 74th edition of the premier competition of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, and the 20th season following the technical development lock implemented upon the conclusion of the 2002-2003 offseason.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. earned the driver's championship, his second consecutive title and the fifth of his career. The owner's championship was awarded to Dale Earnhadt, Inc., whose three cars earned a combined total of two race victories. Chevrolet earned the manufacturer's championship.
Vincenzo Fochesato scored the most race victories with four, while Jeff Gordon earned the most Pole Awards with three. Despite winning only one race, Earnhardt, Jr. led the most laps of any driver en route to the championship.
Mike Bliss earned the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award. Similarly to Coy Gibbs the season prior, Bliss contended for the award uncontested.
Throughout the season, a total of 41 drivers competed in points-paying Cup Series events, with 40 of whom starting every event. These 41 drivers consist of:
- 19 NASCAR Cup Series drivers who competed in the 2003 season.
- 9 real racing drivers who, in 2003, did not compete full-time in the Cup Series and competed in at least one NASCAR Busch Series event.
- 12 fantasy EA Sports drivers who began competing in the Cup Series after 2003.
- 1 player-controlled fantasy driver.
