FIAM Engineering is an Italian racing team, formerly known as Rossini Sport and Scuderia Creazione, based in the northern Italian town of Como. It began in 2007 by Romano Rossini, looking to move his son from lower Italian open wheel formulae into major motorsport, joining the ARLA Elite Series. With short success, it hired in different drivers for the 2008 season while Alessandro raced in more senior divisions, but found no real success and had disbanded from America shortly after the end of the season. In 2013, Rossini Sport officially announced a merger with Milan based automotive manufacturer FIAM and FIAM owned Lugo Motorsport.

After ARLA[edit | edit source]

Alessandro failed to find a racing seat for 2010, and it was found to be more suitable to return to homeland in Italy where they could focus on building youth drivers and also to get Romano's son back into the Italian formulae. Rossini Sport entered 3 cars into the Italian Formula C championship, running Alessandro Rossini, Giuseppe Marchetti and Franco Giovanardi. Although struggling to get Giovanardi going, Rossini and Marchetti found themselves placed further to the front of the field, with Rossini even gaining a back to back race wins in both race 1 and 2 at Misano and Monza. Rossini ended a highly regarded 4th place, while Marchetti found himself 7th with a consistent range of results. Giovanardi would only be able to gain a 19th, but showed promise. In 2011, Rossini Sport re-entered the same drivers hoping for even more success. With Rossini and Marchetti securing the front row of the first race in Monza, it looked impressive, but it didn't make it any further than the first corner as the team mates collided, taking each other out of the race as it began to rain heavily. Surprisingly, Giovanardi had come into hiss own in the rain and took his first victory. Rossini Sport took many other victories further into the season, securing the title for Alessandro Rossini, and a runners up for Marchetti. Despite being lower placed in the championship than his two team mates, Franco Giovanardi took him 4 race wins and a 4th place in the championship.

Kart Development[edit | edit source]

In 2003, Romano Rossini began development on a chassis for use in the Junior Rotax series for Alessandro. The chassis was completed for use for 2004, where Alessandro took the kart to the Italian National Junior Rotax championship, winning all 8 of the 8 races entered by Rossini Sport, and meant Alessandro did not have to compete in the final 2 rounds, allowing him to enter the World Rotax finals with support from Formula Forte. He finished 2nd place in the A Final and 4th place in the B final, leaving him 3rd overall-his best result in a world competition to this date. This was proof the chassis designed by Romano was technically brilliant. Romano continued development on the kart, and it was entered for Alessandro in the World Rotax championship. Despite wins in some finals, Alessandro failed to place the kart on overall podium, yet the kart still positioned a successful 7th.

In 2006, Rossini Sport (under the name Scuderia Creazione), was once again a dominant force. For 2006, Rossini Sport had turned their back on World Karting, focussing on running in the European Junior Rotax. Alessandro took 9 final wins, 2 round wins and 7 podiums.

For 2007, Alessandro had moved up to Italian Formula C. Rossini Sport, however, continued work in karting. Young Italian, Alessio Fabiani, was hired to drive in the World Mini-Max Championship. Fabiani was linked with Rossini Sport after driving with Alessandro, albeit in different series, at Formula Forte-Fabiani won the European Cadet Championship while Rossini drove for them. Fabiani prove that both he and the kart had mountains of speed. Fabiani won 15 of the 28 finals, took 6 round wins and 1 further podium on his way to winning the championship on his first try.

2008 saw Rossini Sport hire more than one driver for the kart team for the first time, with Giuseppe Rossini, the youngest brother of Alessandro, partnering Fabiani. Giuseppe had previously driven for Rossini Sport/Scuderia Creazione in the British Cadet Championship, being vice-champion in 2007. Fabiani went on to take 19 final wins from 28, 8 round wins from 14 and 2 further podiums. Rossini went on to take 2 final wins, both at Buckmore Park, taking 1 round win and 4 other podiums leaving him a credible 6th place on the standings in his first attempt.

Rossini Sport saw a return to the Junior Rotax, this time with 3 drivers; Alessio Fabiani, Giuseppe Rossini and 15 year old Belgian driver, Alex Dann. Fabiani took 2 round wins, 3 final wins and 5 podiums leading onto a 4th place. Giuseppe took 1 round win and 4 podiums, giving him a 7th. Dann won 1 round, yet only placed on the podium 3 times leading to an 8th. 1 Senior Rotax driver was also positioned driving for Rossini Sport; Julienne Dann, 18, sister of young Alex Dann. Julienne only entered the final 3 races of the World Senior Rotax, but still took 2 final wins, and podiums in all 3 rounds.

Rossini Sport entered Fabiani and Alex Dann into the Senior Rotax World Championship for 2010, alongside Julienne Dann. Fabiani once again dominated, winning 7 rounds, taking 22 final wins from 34, and 8 podiums. The Dann siblings fared less successfully; Julienne made the podium 3 times and took 1 final victory, while Alex made it onto the podium a single time during the A final at LaConca. The team did not enter Giuseppe Rossini into the Junior Rotax series. 2011 welcomed Gianni Correli and Josh Dolby into the team, after the subsequent promotion of Julienne Dann and Alessio Fabiani to professional racing series, the exit of Alex Dann and Giuseppe Rossini lacking the available confidence to run in the World Championships. Rossini Kart Engineering had grown to be an international chassis, and highly popular due to the large stocks of spare parts available for the chassis. In the British Championship, 65 of the 120 drivers entered into all 3 Rotax series were running Rossini Kart chassis' and a large mass were also entered into both the International Open in Spain, and the Gran Premio di LaConca. Gianni Correli finished vice-champion in the World Junior Rotax, while Josh Dolby won the British Mini-Max and secured the O Plate. Rossini Kart's placed 1st to 4th in the British Senior Rotax, and 1st to 6th in the Junior.

For 2012, have 4 drivers competing internationally. Gianni Correli and Giuseppe Rossini both made attempts in the WKC Euroseries in the KF2 discipline. Correli took victory, while Rossini placed a competitive 3rd. Correli, Dolby, Rossini and Welch all attempted the Rotax Winter Cup, where Gianni Correli won again, while Dolby finished 9th. The World Rotax Championship saw a large field of Rossini Karts; Correli and Dolby receive the #1 and #2 plates, Giuseppe Rossini receives the #7 plate and Samantha Welch, driving for Rossini USA, is seated in the #33. Luca Giovanni and Bertolini Motorsport are also fielding a Rossini Kart, wearing the #32 plate. Josh Dolby would also compete in the British Mini-Max championship, where he would once again win the O plate in a 2nd successive year. Dolby is competing against 13 other Rossini Kart's in the Mini-Max.

Gianni Correli, Samantha Welch and Giuseppe Rossini were all entered into the Gran Premio di LaConca, in the KF2 class, where they finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd, dominantly. Rossini Kart would place competitively in the World Junior Rotax cup, seeing Gianni Correli win the title 1 race prior to the end of the season, despite only winning 2 of the 12 races. Josh Dolby, who had taken 2 victories over the season, managed a great 3rd place finish. Despite these successful results, disappointment struck the USA dealer team, seeing Giuseppe Rossini take a lowly 11th before an even less successful campaign from Samantha Welch, who placed 13th overall.

2012[edit | edit source]

After this success, Alessandro Rossini took the team from his father's hands and brought it back to the US, where he planned to enter the Hanmore Formula Overdrive Series. The team took a 2nd place at Round 2 in Milwaukee.

The team entered the RROL series with their repainted CM Nova's from Rossini Sport's inaugural season from 2008, running Giuseppe Marchetti in a similarly painted car, yet in Rossini Sport's classic #15.

Alessandro Rossini entered the 2012 Karjala Grand Prix and the 2012 Mini Indy 500, in cars #512 and #48. Rossini also competed in the International F3000 Grand Prix of Italy for Team Petronas Rossini Sport, where he won from 2nd place in the feature race before an incident in the sprint race left him 23rd and with the fastest lap of the race. He is entered for the Grand Prix of Singapore for the Formula C International trophy, as well as the final round of the Italian and Alps Formula C trophy at Monza.

Rossini Sport have retained Franco Giovanardi for the Italian Formula C events in 2012. Franco Giovanardi leads the Italian and Alps series by 2 points, after taking 4 wins. There is one more race to take place, at Monza on the 6th and 7th of October.

Alessio Fabiani won the Italian F3000 championship one race prior to the end of the season.

Giuseppe Marchetti took one victory in the RROL, before 2 retirements.

Kevin Mack and Gianmario Mannani both compete in the British Formula 3000, but have not taken much success, placing 6th and 9th with 1 round remaining.

Richard Faiz currently leads the Pacific Formula C championship. Additionally, Faiz won 5 of the 12 races he has entered in the International Formula C championship, winning all 3 races in Malaysia, his home nation, taking 1 victory of 3 in the Round of China and winning 1 race from 6 races in Bahrain. Despite competing in several less rounds, he places 7th in the International championship. He is entered to run the final round of the Formula C International trophy in Singapore. Sunan Ratree is also competing in the Pacific Formula C championship, and will make his first International start in Singapore on the 29th September. He sits 4th in the Pacific trophy, after taking the sprint and feature race win, as well as a 2nd place in the qualifying heat, at the Rama IX Raceway in Thailand-his home nation.

2013[edit | edit source]

Rossini Sport merged with FIAM and FIAM owned team Lugo Motorsport, becoming FIAM Engineering.

TM Master Cup Series[edit | edit source]

The team entered 3 Omecha MA04's for the Karjala Grand Prix, where Nicola Fabrezia, Vincenzo Fochesato and Giuseppe Marchetti completing an all Italian line up. They are featured as #ItalianPower on twitter.

Formula Overdrive[edit | edit source]

Rossini Sport return for the Formula Overdrive series starring young but fast Italian, Alessio Fabiani, while Japanese Sakura Motoko will be beside Fabiani after Alessandro Rossini making a return to the TM Master Cup Series.. Abandoning their original azzurri blue paint scheme, they return with the traditional red of Italian motorsport. While Motoko has scored points in 2 races, she remains further down the order. After a strong performance in Milwaukee ruined by an accident, Fabiani remains with 0 points.

Euro 3000 Series[edit | edit source]

Rossini Sport make their debut in the huge European Formula 3000 championship, where they will field Italian Stefano Spoldi, who finished 3rd in his rookie season last year, in the #14 and Black Bull sponsored Thai driver Datsakorn Sripan. Due to a legislation stating that best 7 results will be scored, Spoldi will only compete in rounds 1-4, 7,9 and 10, and will be briefly replaced by Rossini Sport's Italian F3000 drivers, Antonio Felipe-Valbuena and Vitaly Zlobin, with a special appearance of Alessandro Rossini planned for the Italian Grand Prix support race at Monza. Stefano Spoldi took victory and a 2nd place in the first two rounds of the season, however Sripan only found a 4th place in Round 2 leaving him further down the order. They currently are the team championship leaders.

Italian F3000 Series[edit | edit source]

With Alessio Fabiani leaving for the Formula Overdrive, Portuguese driver Antonio Felipe-Valbuena, will take over the number 15 car. Rossini Sport will also be adding 3 more cars to it's fleet, with the numbers 14, 16 and 18 being taken into possession by the team. While the 14, to be driven by Russian Vitaly Zlobin, will continue for all 10 rounds, cars 16 and 18 will compete on a limited schedule. The 16 will be driven by Alessio Fabiani, Alessandro Rossini and Stefano Spoldi across 8 of the 10 rounds, while the 18 will solely compete in the Euro 3000 companion event in Imola for the final round, to be driven by Alessio Fabiani. Both Zlobin and Felipe-Valbuena started poorly, notching up 3 retirements collectively in the first 2 rounds, and scoring 0 points after 3 rounds.

Formula C Alps[edit | edit source]

Franco Giovanardi returns for a 3rd year in his original Rossini Sport chassis from 2012, while a second seat has opened for European KF2 and World Junior Rotax champion, Gianni Correli, in the newly formed national class which runs older Formula C chassis models. Both will compete in a full schedule, while a 3rd vehicle is expected to run Alessandro Rossini in the final round at Monza. Giovanardi failed to score a podium in the first round, taking home a 4th place while Correli fell from a 5 second lead in the National class to last place behind National class team mate Marie Henderson in last place.

Karting[edit | edit source]

Alongside his new Formula C commitments, Gianni Correli will continue to compete in both Senior Rotax and the European KF1 championships, as Rossini Sports only senior driver. Samantha Welch will be debuting the teams first shifter kart in the Superkart USA championship, where she will compete in the KZ2 class. Josh Dolby will continue to compete in the World Junior Rotax championship, while also competing in the British Junior Rotax Championship. Giuseppe Rossini will compete solely in the KF2 Euroseries, alongside Rossini Sport debutant Marie Henderson who placed 6th in the KF2 Euroseries in 2012. Correli claimed success in Rounds 1 and 2 of the WKC European KF1 championship, claiming victories in both of the finals, however scored a 12th place in Round 3. He heads into the final round holding a marginal lead over 2 customer Rossini Kart entries and several other manufacturers. Samantha Welch holds a mid-table position in the Superkart USA KZ2 class, while Josh Dolby holds onto a 5th place in the British Junior Rotax and 3rd in the World Championship with Henderson currently holding 9th place. Giuseppe Rossini holds a middle-table position in the KF2, after a retirement in the first round and a spin in the 3rd round, despite successfully scoring 2nd in Round 2.
