KWGP is a German racing team created in 2005 by former Formula A driver Klaus Wendlinghoff (who is also the team's namesake, Klaus Wendlinghoff Grand Prix). The team runs exclusively on open-wheel development ladder series, with the highest series run being Formula B, and other teams fielded include in Formula C regional series and one-spec single seater divisions.

Founding and reputation[edit | edit source]

German Formula A driver Klaus Wendlinghoff, long regarded as a quality talent in a series of sub-par rides, retired after the 2002 season, and quietly began to build cars and scout talent to form KWGP. Its first season launched in 2005 and suffered through multiple poor seasons with woeful reliability (2007, arguably the bottom point of the team's history, recorded only 3 points and a last place constructor's finish at Formula B.) This was a signal to Wendlinghoff that the team needed new direction, so it briefly folded in 2008 as Klaus sold off his equipment, leased engines and chassis from other providers, and returned in 2009 with a surprising 5th place constructor's finish.

Recent success and current lineup[edit | edit source]

In 2012, the team announced a multi-year partnership with ULM, a German-based engine manufacturer, and has since become a strong force on the circuit, winning a constructor's title in 2013 and 2015, and the driver's championship in 2014 with Columbian driver Oscar Valdez. For 2017, the team has under contract Anna Babić of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kevin de Vries of the Netherlands.
