Scott Tyrone Washington (born September 25, 1988 in Tampa, Florida) is an African American racing driver who races for Peter Dennis Racing in the RROL Elite Series. Washington began racing shortly after graduating High School when he began drag racing as a hobby. He took part in a driver school at Charlotte Motor Speedway and was hooked by circuit racing. He resides in Columbus, Ohio. Washington won the 2012 Clairmont Grand Prix (Second Round). In response he said that the victory "felt unreal" and was "the greatest moment of his career". He is the first African American to win in the RROL, an honor widely expected to be achieved by James Proctor. He is seeking to move to the TM Lights in 2013 and is believed to be perusing a spot at Gravity Racing, Inc.. Subway pledged to sponsor him in 2013, fueling the GRI rumors due to the restaurant chain's association with the Ohio-based team. He also inquired about a ride at Racing for the Community, but it is believed that Mike Andrews will remain with the team. Washington is one of the tallest drivers on the NRC circuit at 6'3.

TM Lights[edit | edit source]

Washington was announced as the driver of the #71 car for Gravity Racing, Inc., a team owned by TM Master Cup and ARLA driver Packer Carroll. The team had previously approached Amanda Johnson and Casey Lester for the seat but neither was able to complete the deal. Washington became the first African American to compete for the team. Washington's #71 entry will carry Subway sponsorship for the 2013 campaign.
