Pre-race storylines[edit | edit source]
The practice sessions were marred by several technical glitches with the timing and scoring system, including one in which Leonid Roderick's time was showing as second-fastest, though there was no one listed in the first position. Greg Woodard reported similar issues on Twitter, saying his crew chief had difficulties in reporting his lap times as they would disappear or change randomly. Gabriel Macena, appearing in his hometown race on a Promoter's Option, seemed to think he saw the number 46 appear on the broadcast ticker (which was impossible since there was no car with that number on the entry list). Ryan Matthews, also in Brazil on the Promoter's Option, also reported glitches, including one where he thought he saw his late wife's name next to his car number on the scoring screen.
Additionally, a power failure at the track caused the second practice session to be cut short.
