TM Master Cup Series Driver

Troy Adams (born February 17, 1972) is an Australian race car driver currently driving for Down Under Motorsports in the TM Lights, driving the No. 19. He drove for Star Team Nemoto in the 2013 TM Master Cup Series, driving the No. 18 Nemoto Respetti. He contested the Independent's Trophy in 2012 for BKR Australia.

Adams was the 2012 TM Lights champion, driving for Down Under Motorsports.

Career[edit | edit source]

Adams originally drove in AUSCAR when that series was around. When nephew Josh Marshall started his racing career, Adams thought it would be a good idea to try out stock cars again. Adams became good friends with Marshall's team owner, John Wargle, and they decided to take their race team, Australian Motorsports, to America and have a go at stock cars.

TM Lights Driver

In their first season in the TM Lights, they ran an Australian flag-designed car, numbered 901 (the reason being Australia federated in 1901) just to get a kick start in the series without any major sponsorship deals.

Adams also attempted to qualify for his first TM Master Cup series race in 2011, the Round of Indianapolis. Much to his surprise, he was able to qualify for the race in his underfunded car. Adams' inexperience and lack of funding showed, as he dropped to the back early on. However, he kept a level head and brought the car home in one piece, which was all that the team asked for.

When the 2012 TM Lights season began, Mother Energy agreed to sponsor Adams' car, seeing as how they already have sponsorship deals with Marshall and the team. The team changed their name to Down Under Motorsports for the TM Lights campaign. Adams won the 2012 TM Lights season championship, picking up 2 race victories in the season with 11 Top 10 finishes.

Adams returned to TM Lights in 2014 for Down Under Motorsports after one year in Master Cup. His role was to help mentor nephew Josh Marshall in his first full season. A win at Burlington and 3rd place at Pennsylvania being the only highlights of a rather miserable campaign, with only 6 point finishes in the season,

TM Master Cup series (2012-2013)[edit | edit source]

Adams was picked up as a driver for BKR Australia for an Independent's Trophy bid in the 2012 TM Master Cup season alongside countryman Barton Sandy. However, Adams struggled to find pace and was beaten by Sandy.

He was surprisingly picked up by Star Team Nemoto for the 2013 season based off his TM Lights success. However, Adams's age raised several questions among pundits, as he would be 41 when the 2013 season started, and make him the oldest driver to run their first full season since Michael Sykes. Many of his sponsors from his TM Lights effort would follow him into the TM Master Cup series. He will be paired with the highly-rated Louis Kingston, who managed to win in the Nemoto in 2012 and challenge for a top ten place in the championship despite the car being well off the leaders' pace.
