Pre-race notes[edit | edit source]

The race[edit | edit source]

On the start, polesitter Dale Roswell took off, leaving Scott Steudler in the dust.

Caution flew on lap five when the No. 24 of Kurt Plissken hooked Leonid Roderick, in which his No. 4 bounced into Joel Rodriguez's way spinning him into the inside wall. Rodriguez would march on.

Later on in the race, Ross Peterson proved he had one of the faster cars on the track by setting the fastest lap of the race with a 16-second-flat lap.

On Lap 22, the second caution waved as Steudler, Manny Brown, Rachel Rainsford, and Damien Snyder went four-wide, causing Rainsford and Snyder to get thrown into the outside wall.

Rodriguez brought out the yellow again six laps later as he got spun by Snyder, this time making contact with the frontstretch wall. Roderick assumed the lead from Louis Kingston on the restart, having beaten him off pit road.

James Dalton would bring out the fourth caution of the day on Lap 32 as Cyrus LaTerza made contact with Dalton, sending him rear-end first into the end of the pit wall. A few cars took to the pit lane to avoid Dalton's No. 00.

The race stayed caution-free until Lap 41. Five-wide racing doesn't work at a short track, as Roswell, Tom Delgado, Matt Taylor, Tony Durbin, and Johnny Ada would discover. Roswell would spin as a result, but would continue with (fortunately) minimal damage. On the restart, Alexis Rainsford took off and opened a gap between her and 2nd-place driver Lorne Roth.

Trouble found Rodriguez again on lap 46, as this time he spun debutante Woody Watts around in frustration. Anthony Evans' No. 10 car would fall out due to pile ups in the pits.

Steudler and Palmer Stiles got together on Lap 58, causing the seventh caution of the day. Steudler and Stiles spun down the track, collecting Marcos Leonard – who spun up the track into the path of Kevin Colley.

A supercell thunderstorm was discovered to be closing in on the track, causing officials to shorten the race by 30 laps (the race was scheduled to go 100).

Cautions tend to breed cautions, and that's what happened on Lap 61. Once again, Rodriguez was involved, taking out Todd Wodarczyk, Joseph Howard, and Paul Lyons. Wodarczyk and Craig Cross would have choice words for Rodriguez after this incident.

On Lap 67, Taylor and Snyder made contact, taking out Sam Morel in the process. Damage flew everywhere forcing the race into a red flag, only further jeopardizing the race's finish as the storm blew closer.

Plissken was the leader at that time, and during the delay the officials announced the race would have five laps to go when it restarted. Everyone pitted on the caution, but Ross Peterson gambled and took only two tires and came out in the lead. With Richland County, Ohio (the county in which the track is in) under a severe thunderstorm warning, and a subsequent tornado warning for rotation near the track, officials pulled the plug on the event and Peterson was declared the winner.
