Championship Overview |
The 2018 NSCC Hanmore AmeriCar Championship Road Racing Series season is the upcoming season of the AmeriCar Championship Road Racing Series, main professional road racing tour in America, sanctioned by the National Sports Car Club.
For this season the schedule expands to 16 races, with 12 road courses and four temporary circuits, 2018 also marks the first trip to Mexico in series history, alongside other 5 additions to the calendar.
The season scraps the previous multi-class format and the knockout championship system, used until 2017, with all cars being adapted to the NSCC GT-1 specifications. However, the bodies used will be the same as previous years.
The cars will be powered by overhead valve (two per cylinder), pushrod, naturally aspirated, carburated 358 cubic inch (5.86 L) V8 engines, producing 850 horsepower. The minimum base weight (including driver and driver gear) for all cars is 2,780 pounds. Fuel cell capacity is 33 U.S. gallons.
Calendar[edit | edit source]
17 total races will be contested through 15 weeks. 12 of the 15 events will take place in the United States, while Canada has two back-to-back races and Mexico features the opening event each. Ten of the Fifteen events will be based in permanent facilities, with three street courses and one airport racetrack being used.
Most events will be supporting larger championships, including the American SportsCar Championship, V8 ChampCar, FARC, and TM Master Cup Series. Three races will be co-headlined with the regional Tyson-Madigan series in Mexico and Canada, while some AmeriCar races will be supported by other National Sports Car Club support championships, namely the rebranded Formula Overdrive.
