Daytona International Speedway is a 2.5-mile tri-oval track in Daytona Beach, Florida, which currently primarily hosts the season finale for the ASCC. It formerly hosted the TM Master Cup Series Round of Daytona, TM Lights, TM Junior Series, FARC Lowe Dollar Series, FARC Truck Series, National Pro Cup Championship, and the GRL.
Track Layout[edit | edit source]
Daytona International Speedway is a 2.5 mile superspeedway and has 31 degrees of banking in the turns, 18 degrees in the Tri-Oval, and has 2 degrees in the backstretch. Daytona also has a 3.5 mile road course, but is used only by sports car series such as AmeriCar.
TM Master Cup[edit | edit source]
Daytona was the season opener from 1987 to 2009, the Round of Daytona. The track held no TMMC races in 2010 due to a dispute with track promoters, but made a speedy return for the 2011 schedule.
The 2011 Round of Daytona was marred by a horrific accident in which Leslie Riggs and Woody Watts were severely injured. The track was soon dropped from the 2012 calendar, and the series has not indicated a willingness to return.
FARC Lowe Dollar Series[edit | edit source]
ARLA's first-ever official race, which was won by Jeb Klinger, was held at Daytona, and was the season opener every year from then on through 2010. The speedway has been known in recent years for its streak for first time winners from 2001 to 2011, and several of them falling victim to an alleged "Daytona Curse". The 2009 Smash Beer 100 was the first time ARLA ran Daytona in the rain. Daytona returned to the schedule in 2012, and ultimately became the regular season opener again, after the scheduled host track, Dallas Speedpark, was damaged by a tornado.
Daytona most recently hosted FARC for the 2016 Apex Racing School Rookie Shootout and Smash Beer Get Smashed 200.
